According to a recent study, the Evansville area is home to several of the best small towns in Indiana.

Small towns are really a hot topic lately. When it comes to Indiana, we have no shortage of them. Everyone has small-town pride nowadays. As someone who is from a small town in Indiana, I am proud of where I come from. Boonville, Indiana, is a great place to raise a family and to call home. But it's not just Boonville; we have a lot of great small towns in the Evansville area that are perfect for families. And it's not just me saying that; a recent study used data to support that statement.

The website Home Snacks recently compiled a list of the superb small towns in Indiana based on data, not opinions or hearsay. Home Snacks used the most recent data from the Census’s 2020-2024 American Community Survey, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and Saturday Night Science, using the following data points:

Population Density (Higher is better)
Lowest Unemployment Rates
Housing costs (Higher is better. More demand.)
Adjusted Median Income (Higher is better)
Highly Educated Adults (Higher is better)
Insurance Rates (Higher is better)
Commute Times (Lower is better)

The website only looked at places with populations lower than 5,000 people and greater than 1,000 – there were 206 to be exact. Those towns were then ranked, and at the very top of that list...a few small towns from right here in the Evansville area.
