There are tons of fun things to do in Nashville, Tennessee, but seeing a movie may not be one of them—for one clear reason.

While some may prefer to watch new releases on streaming services at home, I will always be a fan of movie theaters. I grew up going to the movies regularly, and in high school, I probably saw one film per week every summer. Even as an adult, I try to get there as often as possible to immerse myself in classic movie magic. Plus, the popcorn and soda refills are pretty cool too. That said, there is one city where even longtime moviegoers are likely to avoid—Nashville, Tennessee.

Going to the Movies in 2025

It's no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic left a huge scar on the movie theater industry, but thankfully, it has seen some improvement over the last couple of years. Many theaters have begun efforts to bolster the movie-going experience itself by adding more comfortable chairs, better screens, and Dolby Atmos—advanced sound technology that creates an immersive, three-dimensional audio experience. In 2025, it is my hope that things continue to improve.

One aspect of the movie-going experience at the forefront of everyone's minds these days is prices. Before the pandemic, I remember seeing movies for just $5 a ticket in Washington, Indiana, at our local theater on Main Street. My wife, who is from Crawfordsville, Indiana, thought those ticket prices were a steal when we first started dating around 2018. Today, you can still find some pretty good deals on movie tickets in the tri-state, but it's safe to say that some locales are much more affordable than others.

Many folks might be more inclined to forgo the movie theater experience while visiting Music City due to the cost. In fact, Nashville has the 7th most expensive movie theaters in the entire United States, according to NetCredit. The average movie ticket price in Nashville currently stands at $15.55, which can really add up if you're not going alone and plan to get snacks or drinks.
