‘A League of Their Own’ Actress to Make Stop in Dubois County
Fans of the 1992 film "A League of Their Own" will be able to meet Megan Cavanagh (aka Marla Hooch) at an upcoming Dubois County Bombers game.
"There's no crying in baseball!" That line from the 1992 Columbia Pictures film A League of Their Own makes me laugh every time I hear it. I've seen this movie more times than I can count, and it's safe to say it's one of my favorite films from the 1990s. Not only does the film tell an incredible story, but it also includes an A-list cast featuring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Rosie O'Donnell, Madonna, and several others. The film holds even more meaning for Hoosiers, as portions of it were shot in Huntingburg, Indiana.
According to the City of Huntingburg, the Dubois County Bombers play all home games at the historic League Stadium in Huntingburg. The stadium was built in 1894, but in 1991, the original field and grandstand were renovated by Columbia Pictures for the filming of the movie A League of Their Own. League Stadium served as the home field for the Rockford Peaches, and tributes to the film can be found around the stadium today. In fact, original advertisements from the movie still remain along the outfield fence of the ballpark. Other shots of the film were also captured in Evansville at Bosse Field.
The Bombers are set to play the Danville Dans on Friday, July 5, at home, but this particular game will feature a special guest. Megan Cavanagh, who played "Marla Hooch" in A League of Their Own, will be at League Stadium for a VIP meet and greet with fans before the game from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Cavanagh will be available for pictures and autographs at this time, and she will also share some stories about her time in Dubois County filming the movie. This will be her first time back at League Stadium since the production.
Fans who wish to chat with Cavanagh will need to have a separate ticket to attend the meet and greet. You can get those tickets here, and tickets to the game itself can be purchased here. Gates open for the game at 5:30 p.m., with the first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
