This is probably one of the hardest articles I've ever had to write.

103 GBF Will Forever Hold a Special Place in my Heart

Hey! It's me, Melissa this is kind of weird because I don't post a lot of articles from my own perspective, but this is something that is really important to me that you hear from me.   This week is my last week on air on Everything That Rocks, 103 GBF.

To say this is bittersweet is an understatement.  GBF is the station where I started my radio career. My first ever on-air gig was Saturday nights on GBF back in 2010! I started interning for 103 GBF back in 2008, and like a bad penny, the station couldn't get rid of me.

A 2018 Homecoming of Sorts

Back in 2018, I had the opportunity to head back to 103 GBF and begin working afternoons, and alongside Kat Mykals.  As you may or may not know, 103 GBF is a totally two-person operation in Evansville. Kat is the Brand Manager, and I am the Promotions Director.  I'm beyond proud to work for a female-run rock station because, in the radio industry, that's not normally heard of.

But while I'm extremely proud of what we do on 103 GBF, what I'm most proud of is the genuine friendship Kat and I have developed over the years.  She's become one of my closest friends, and biggest cheerleaders, and I'm forever thankful to have her in my life.   Kat, you're not getting rid of me even though I won't be sharing the studio with you anymore!

This Isn't Goodbye, it's See Ya Later

So why am I leaving 103 GBF?  Well, full transparency there was an opportunity that arose that I couldn't pass up.  I'm not leaving radio, but there are changes ahead.  I'm very excited for the future, and the future of GBF, because even though I'm leaving, Kat has so many exciting things up her sleeve. And who knows, you may hear me occasionally pop on a mic from time to time.

If you've tuned in at all over the last nearly 5 years I've been on 103 GBF, I want to say thank you for making me a part of your life.  Whether you rock out while you're at work, or listen on your drive home, I'm incredibly honored that I can be some small part of your day.

You can hear my announcement break with Kat below.

Okay, I'm going to stop typing now, because I've been teary all day. This is a very emotional and bittersweet moment in my life.  I'll leave you with this photo that perfectly describes my and Kat's friendship, and instead of goodbye, I'll tell you that I'll see you later.

The responses we got when we shared a meme asking you to "Ruin a band by removing one letter from its name" were far more than we bargained for and they have had us rolling! Check out some of our favorites.
