Indiana Photographer Captures Stunning Eagle Photos in Backyard
Seeing an eagle in the wild is pretty cool, but seeing an eagle in your own backyard is awesome!
The Bald Eagle
Since the year 1782 Bald Eagles have been the national bird of the United States. Even though these majestic raptors are native to our area, there's still always something so cool about catching a glimpse of one of these birds in the wild.
What's really fascinating about the United States' history with bald eagles, is that at one point in time, bald eagles faced extinction due to habitat destruction and hunting. History.com explains that in the 1940s the Eagle Protection Act was passed which made it illegal to kill eagles, but in 1978 the population had dwindled so much that the bald eagle was placed on the endangered species list, but there is good news!
Thanks to federal protections as well as regulations involving DDT, in 1995 the bald eagle population had recovered enough for the bird’s status to be changed from endangered to threatened, and in 2007 it was removed completely from the list. - History.com
It's clear that the bald eagle is not only a symbol of strength, but after this history lesson, I think we can all agree that they are a great example of resilience as well! History.com has the full history behind bald eagles becoming our nation's bird which you can read here. It's quite fascinating!
