Seems like no matter what the occupation is, there will always be some folks who think they can do it better. A few examples that come to mind are teachers, coaches, referees/umpires, and law enforcement. Politicians and city leaders get a lot of criticism too, but do you (me, us, whoever) really think we can do a better job? I've got to think that running a city is NOT an easy job, and clearly, some do it better than others.

Which cities are the best and worst-run cities in America? How do Indiana cities compare to the rest of the country? WalletHub.com just released a report answering those questions, and would you be surprised to know that one Hoosier town is ranked in the top ten (and it's NOT Indianapolis)?

The 7th Best-Run City in America is...

Out of the 149 cities that were compared for this list, none other than FORT WAYNE represents Indiana in the top ten. How cool is that? The rankings were determined by comparing the country's 149 most populated cities in the following six categories: 1) Financial Stability, 2) Education, 3) Health, 4) Safety, 5) Economy, and 6) Infrastructure & Pollution.

Fort Wayne obviously scored well enough in these categories to land in the #7 spot on the list. Here is another highlight from the report, Fort Wayne has the third-highest high school graduation rate in the country - I think that might just be the coolest stat of them all.

How Did the Rest of Indiana Rank?

There were two other Indiana cities included in the report - Gary and Indianapolis. Their scores weren't horrible, but they certainly weren't great either. Indianapolis is ranked at #89, and Gary is ranked at #62. Not too shabby, right? There are a few categories, though, where Gary really struggled. Here's what I'm talking about...

  • Gary has the 3rd highest unemployment rate in America
  • Gary has the lowest median annual household income
  • Gary has the second-highest percentage of the population in poverty.

There is a bunch of information in this report - you can see it all here if you are so inclined.

See Inside This Now Abandoned Indiana Brick Factory

This former factory, located in Vermillion County, Indiana, was the last coal-fired brick plant in America. I can honestly say I've never seen anything like it - I guess that's why these pictures caught my eye.

15 of the Most Beautiful County Courthouses in Indiana

There are a total of 92 county courthouses in the state of Indiana. I have determined (it's just my opinion) that these 15 are the most beautiful. There is no way I could or would rank them, so here they are in alphabetical order.
