How to Get Caught Up on All the Marvel Movies Before Infinity War
It's a doozy of a list, but if you start next week you'll be done in time for Infinity War!
If you watch one movie a week, starting next week, you'll be caught up on all the Marvel movies you need to see before Avengers: Infinity War comes out in May of 2018. And don't think you can just go see Infinity War without having seen all the MCU movies! YOU HAVE TO! (According me) Because all 6 of the Infinity Stones are connected to a lot of these movies. These movies have been 10 years in the making and all leading up to this big climactic moment. So here's how you start:
1. Iron Man (2008)
(Week of Dec. 11th)
While there was a Hulk movie before this, considering that we all know the origins of the Hulk (gamma radiation), and every movie has a different actor portraying Bruce Banner, I think it's safe to skip the first Hulk movie and dive straight into the movie that kicked this franchise into high gear. Iron Man.
2. The Incredible Hulk (2009)
(Week of Dec.18th)
Eh. You can skip this one if you want, in my opinion. It kind of explains why Betty isn't with Bruce and how and why he's found in India at the beginning of the Avengers. But other than that, I don't really think it's necessary. If you really want to, feel free!
If you want to skip it, but still want to watch a Marvel movie a week, replace it with Deadpool. He has nothing to do with Infinity War, but he's fun to watch.
3. Iron Man 2 (2010)
(Skip 2 weeks for Christmas and New Years!)
(Week of Jan. 8th)
Sometimes I think this movie isn't necessary, but then I remember that it has the introduction of a very sassy red head. Which makes it very necessary.
4. Thor (2011)
(Week of Jan. 15th)
-Infinity Stone: Space Stone ("Cosmic Cube"/Tesseract)
5. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
(Week of Jan. 22nd)
-Infinity Stone: Space Stone (blue) ("Cosmic Cube"/Tesseract)
6. Marvel's The Avengers (2012)
(Week of Jan. 29th)
-Infinity Stone: Space Stone (blue) (Tesseract)
-Infinity Stone: Mind Stone (yellow) (in Loki's scepter)
7. Iron Man 3 (2013)
(Week of Feb. 5th)
Some people say this movie "isn't necessary". But those people are wrong. This is one of my favorite Iron Man movies because it actually deals with the emotional aftermath that a 'superhero' goes through after a traumatic event (like the Chitauri attack on NY, falling through a wormhole to your assumed death, and then eating schawarma afterward like nothings wrong.) It deals with the PTSD of a hero. And that's an important topic to tackle.
8. Thor: The Dark World (2013)
(Week of Feb. 12th)
-Infinity Stone: Reality Stone (red) ("the Aether")
9. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
(Week of Feb. 19th)
This movie emotionally cripples me to this day. I was crying in the theater when I first saw it even though I knew beforehand what was going to happen because I read the comics, but it still hurt me in the hearty place.
Also, out of all the Marvel movies on this list, this is my favorite scene out of all them.
-Infinity Stone: Mind Stone (yellow) (seen in bonus scene with Maximoff Twins. How they got their powers.)
10. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
(Week of Feb. 26th)
-Infinity Stone: Power Stone (purple)
-Infinity Stone: Reality Stone (red) (I don't know if it's actually seen, but it is in the hands of the Collector after Thor: The Dark World)
11. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
(Week of Mar. 5th)
As much as I don't agree with ANYTHING that happened in this movie (the writing, the romantic sub-plots, the character death) it does revolve around an Infinity Stone. Which is important to the MCU.
-Infinity Stone: Mind Stone (yellow) (Loki's scepter used to create Ultron; then used to create Vision, who now holds the stone.)
12. Ant-Man (2015)
(Week of Mar. 12th)
13. Captain America: Civil War (2016) (On Netflix)
(Week of Mar. 19th)
14. Doctor Strange (2016) (On Netflix)
(Week of Mar. 26th)
-Infinity Stone: Time Stone (green) (the Eye of Agamotto)
15. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) (On Netflix)
(Week of Apr. 2nd)
16. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
(Week of Apr. 9th)
17. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
(Week of Apr. 16th)
-Infinity Stone: Space Stone (blue) (Tesseract)
-Infinity Gauntlet (or is it???)
18. Black Panther (Feb. 2018)
(Week of Apr. 23rd) (Hey! It might be at the $2 movie theater by this time!)
-Infinity Stone: Soul Stone (orange?)
Marvel Studio exec Kevin Feige said that the Soul Stone would appear in "Phase Three" of the MCU. And since the only 2 movies left in "Phase Three" are Black Panther and Infinity War, it's safe to assume that the Black Panther movie will deal with the final Infinity Stone.
19. Avengers: Infinity War (May 2018)
(May 4th, 2018)
