How to Avoid the Hepatitis A Outbreak in Indiana
Unfortunately, Indiana has been hit hard by Hep A. But there are ways for you to prevent getting it!
This large Hepatitis outbreak started in Kentucky, near Louisville, and has slowly made it's way into the south eastern part of Indiana. But even a slow outbreak is still bad.
Indiana typically has about 20 cases of Hep A a year. Already, in May, the Indiana Health Department has seen over 70 cases. That's not good.
So, how do you avoid it?
Well, most health officials are blaming the outbreak on drug use and contaminated syringes. So avoidance #1: Don't do drugs.
Avoidance #2: Make sure you're up to date on all your vaccines.
Avoidance #3: Wash your hands.
It's that simple.
If you do unfortunately get Hepatitis A, don't worry, it's not known to be fatal. But it can stay active within you for about a month, which is no fun.
