The 'Friday the 13th' series is one of the most iconic horror franchises of all time, and it's finally returning to the video game medium.

Bloody Disgusting reports that an experienced, but undisclosed, gaming studio is working hard to make 'Friday the 13th' into a video game... again. About 25 years ago, the abysmal Friday the 13th game came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Now, a new game will be coming out to coincide with the release of the upcoming TV show of the same name. We can't wait to see the differences between LJN's NES flop and whatever this new project is going to be.

“With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form,” Sean S. Cunningham, creator of the original film, states. “We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”

The game will be a co-operative and competitive multiplayer game focusing on a group of Crystal Lake visitors trying to survive Jason Voorhee's wraith. Survivors will have to pool their resources and survive. Someone will actually get to control Jason as other plays will try to flee for their lives -- just don't trip and fall over nothing like most of his victims do.

The game has a tentative title of Friday the 13th and is expected to launch in October. Unfortunately, no platforms have been announced.
