Here’s How to Become a Kentucky Bourbon Ambassador & Get Your Name on a Barrel For Free
My husband is a big fan of bourbon, so when I found out I could get his name on a barrel of bourbon, I had to do it! And the coolest part? It's free to do so!
Maker's Mark is known for its delicious bourbon, and its distillery is located in Kentucky, not too far from the Tri-State, in Loretto, Kentucky. They have a really cool Ambassador Program where you can get your name on a barrel of bourbon.
How to Get Your Name on a Barrel of Bourbon
To get your name on a barrel of bourbon, you first have to become a Maker's Mark Ambassador. You can take the quiz on their website, and test out your bourbon chops. If you pass you can become an ambassador. When you become an ambassador they'll etch your name onto the barrel. The cool part is they also send you an Ambassador welcome kit.
What Comes in the Welcome Kit?
The welcome kit came a few weeks after I signed my husband up for the Ambassador program. He didn't know I had done it, I wanted it to be a surprise because I knew he'd really enjoy getting to have his name on a barrel of bourbon. The welcome kit came with all kinds of cool things!

Cards to hand out with his barrel info on them in case any friends/family want to buy a barrel.
How Long Until Your Bourbon is Ready?
We're in for the long game here. The bourbon barrel will actually have to age for about 6-7 years before it'll be ready to be bottled and hit the shelves. In a welcome letter, Maker's Mark sent to my husband they said once the bourbon is done aging they will have personalized bottles available for purchase.
I've always wanted to go and check out the Makers Mark Distillery, I hear it's a really cool experience, and since we now have a barrel with my husband's name on it, it looks like we'll have to make the trip to Loretto to see for ourselves!
