Five Horror Movies to Watch on a Chilly Halloween Night
Halloween 2019 is going to be a chilly one, here's some movies to get you into the spirit while staying warm!
Halloween is my all time favorite holiday, first of all no gift exchanging is necessary minus candy so expectations are low, which I appreciate. Second of all you get to dress up as anything you want. Third of all spooky things are my jam. I'm a big fan of horror and anything on the spooky/creepy side, since Halloween is going to be an extra chilly one this year, here's a suggestion of 5 different movies that are excellent to watch on Halloween!
1) Halloween
I know "duh" Halloween is literally the title of the movie. However Halloween is the first true slasher flick. While Michael Myers terrorizes people in the otherwise quiet town, something about the move evokes a warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling about Halloween. I mean minus the slashing.
2) Frankenstein & The Bride of Frankenstein
So you may or may not know that I am a classic horror freak. Boris Karloff is my dude, and anything with him in it will have all my attention. You can't beat the classics, and in my opinion they're still just as fantastic to watch today as they were when they came out. Frankenstein' monster is the quintessential Halloween monster, and you can't go wrong with a classic like either of these movies.
3) The Vvitch (The Witch)
This movie is a newer flick it came out in 2016, and it is phenomenal. It's set in 1600's New England before the Salem witch trials and hysteria really took off, however tensions around witchcraft were on the rise in this time period. This movie focuses on one family who have much bad luck befall them, and they end up blaming their eldest daughter of witchcraft. The movie is phenomenally done, a bit of a slow burn, but I highly recommend it! Sidenote, I suggest watching with subtitles on as some of the script is taking directly from old witch trials and writings from the 1600s so it can be a bit hard to distinguish what they say at times.
4) It
Whether you choose the new version or the old version the story of It has become a bit of a classic in its own right. The storyline of the lovable losers teaming up to defeat an evil cosmic being like Pennywise all the while he's terrorizing them is just a fantastic story. I personally love the new It movies, but the original mini series with Tim curry will forever be one of my all time favorites.
5) Scream
Scream has become a bit of a modern horror classic. It's also one of those "self aware" kind of movies that anyone watching can appreciate. Plus it was directed by Wes Craven, so do I really have to say more?
Here's a few honorable mentions that almost made this list:
- Hocus Pocus (I grew up in the 90s so I'm sorry I HAD TO)
- Trick R Treat
- The Conjuring
- Hereditary
- Friday the 13th
- Nightmare on Elm Street (you can't go wrong with classic slasher ever).
- A Quiet Place
So what will you be watching on this chilly Halloween?
