Thrash pioneers Exodus will celebrate their 40th anniversary next year with a residency in the Bay Area, where they cut their teeth in the early '80s.

"I think that we're gonna do something in San Francisco next year," said vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza. "We're gonna do a residency there, back at home, for 40 years," he told Hungary's Impact metal channel (see video above). "We're talking about it right now. Maybe three or four nights at a certain place. We played there last year two nights, called The Chapel. Probably bring old members up — that sort of thing — and see what happens. It's in the talks; [it's] definitely in the works right now."

It seems likely that Exodus guitarist and songwriter Gary Holt, who has been moonlighting with Slayer since 2011 and has not been able to play every Exodus show, will redirect his energies towards Exodus in December when Slayer finish their farewell tour.

At that point, Holt with likely work with Souza on the follow-up to Exodus 2014 studio album Blood In, Blood Out, which marked the first album appearance for Souza since 2004's Tempo of the Damned. Souza has been in and out of the band over the years, singing with them from 1986 to 1993 and again from 2002 to 2004.

In 2014, Souza replaced Rob Dukes, who had been with the band since 2005. Dukes hasn't been entirely out of the Exodus realm, however. In July 2017 he joined the band onstage in San Francisco for several songs. It was the first time the band had played its hometown since 2014.

It seems possible that Dukes and maybe even Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett, who started his career in Exodus, might make a special appearance during the band's residency. In 2014, Hammett guested on Blood In Blood Out with a solo on the track "Salt the Wound."
