American Medical Response of Evansville Adds Sensory Tool Kits to Ambulances
Anytime you have to call an ambulance, it's usually not for a fun reason. Typically there is some type of emergency taking place. Emergencies are scary situations to deal with for everyone, but these types of situations can be extremely upsetting to kids. During a time of crisis you may not be able to calm your child like usual, so that's where these tool kits come in.
Sensory Tool Kits
These tool kits have items like pop-its, fidget toys, noise-reducing ear protection, and other sensory items to help calm the nervous system during a crisis. These items aren't just great to help kids, they can also help people who deal with things like autism, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, and more.
Here is what AMR of Evansville had to say about the new sensory tool kits:
The kit provides items that provide tactile and/or stimulation. This includes spinners, articulating snakes, squeeze balls and other items. If I child prefers less auditory stimulation, there is a set of headphones included. All of these items are single-use and those used will be left with the child upon arrival at the emergency department. The kit also includes a marker board for use with children who are non-verbal or prefer to draw as a calming technique.
