Burn Bans in Effect

Earlier this week we were lighting off fireworks, but now due to dry conditions, you definitely shouldn't be lighting anything off, especially open fires.  In fact, I have a friend on Facebook who shared a photo of her yard on the 4th of July after a firework set her yard on fire. Since then conditions have become even drier, and counties have enacted burn bans.

Vanderburgh County

In a press release, the City of Evansville stated that a burn ban would be in effect:

Due to low rainfall and dry conditions, the Mayor of the City of Evansville, Vanderburgh County Commissioners, Evansville Fire Department, Suburban Firefighters Association of Vanderburgh County, the Emergency Management Agency of Vanderburgh County, in coordination with the Evansville Environmental Protection Agency, has issued an Open Burn Ban for the City of Evansville and inside Vanderburgh County for four (4) miles beyond the city limits.

 

The Open Burn Ban will continue until conditions improve.  The public will be notified when the Ban has been lifted.  All forms of Open Burning are prohibited, including, but not limited to:

• Recreational fires;
• Burn Barrels;
• Agricultural and ditch clearing;
• Previously approved Open Burn Variances, and
• Previously approved Air Curtain Incinerator Permits.

This ban does not include cooking fires in charcoal or gas grills.

 

Warrick County

The Warrick County Sheriff's Office shared a statement with the following on Facebook:

The Warrick County Commissioners have declared an Open Fire Emergency, banning open fires within Warrick County until conditions improve and the ban is lifted. See the attached declaration for more details.

 

Posey County

Posey County Emergency Management also took to Facebook to announce a burn ban in Posey County as well. Here's what they said on Facebook:

Posey County is now under a BAN ON ALL OPEN BURNING until further notice.

Mt Vernon, New Harmony and Poseyville have local ordnance's in place and have for several years.
