Rosin up your bow, those hard rocking cellists in Apocalyptica are ready to rock your world again. The Finnish outfit have just announced that their ninth studio album will be titled Cell-0 and they've given listeners the first taste of new music in a dark and foreboding new song titled "Ashes of the Modern World."

The group teamed up with award-winning photographer/videographer Ville Juurikkala to create a visually engaging clip to go along with "Ashes of the Modern World," and you can catch the video toward the bottom of this post.

Though they worked with singer Franky Perez on their previous release, Cell-0 finds the group returning to their roots as an instrumental outfit and delivering their first fully instrumental release in 17 years.

“It is tough to express without lyrics, but in Cell-0, we found particles of our universe previously unknown to us,” they explained. “Millions of notes combine to create music just as millions of cells combine to create life, and when you visualize the whole thing, similar patterns appear.”

The band's Eicca Toppinen adds, “These new songs have so many layers and are so complex, and it’s not always easy to point exactly what they are about. But I think that’s also the beauty of instrumental music, that the listener always can feel free to experience the same songs in very, very different ways. It’s also one reason why we don’t want to explain the songs before they’re experienced.”

Cell-0 is the follow-up to 2015's Shadowmaker album and it is on track for a Jan. 10 street date via Silver Lining Music. Pre-orders for the album are currently being taken here.

Apocalyptica will be hitting the road in support of the album, starting in Europe early next year. The band will be playing shows with Sabaton. Dates for the run can be viewed below, and ticketing info can be found here.
