Angel Mounds Hosting Free Entry on Presidents’ Day
It may be the middle of winter, but there's still plenty to do in the tri-state! For instance, you can go and enjoy Angel Mounds! And even better, on Monday, February 21st (Presidents' Day), you can enjoy Angel Mounds for free as they won't be charging admission.
Angel Mounds is located in Evansville, and it's truly such a cool place that we're lucky to have locally! Did you know Angel Mounds is one of the best-preserved, pre-contact Native American sites in North America? That's wild! It dates back to A.D. 1000 and 1450 (which, if you struggle with math, that's a reallllllly long time ago). Here's what IndianaMuseum.org says about Angel Mounds:
Located on the banks of the Ohio River in southwest Indiana, Angel Mounds State Historic Site is one of the best-preserved, pre-contact Native American sites in North America. Built between A.D. 1000 and 1450, the town was occupied by more than 1,000 people who were part of the Mississippian culture, and included earthen mounds built to elevate important buildings.
While at Angel Mounds you can see some really cool things, and really immerse yourself in history. They have plenty of trails for hiking, an Interpretive Center where you can learn all about the history of Angel Mounds, and you can even walk around and see the earthen mounds that were built by a Mississippian Society.
Angel Mounds has a few fun events coming up, this winter/early spring:
- February 13th - Beekeeping 101
- February 21st- Free Admission Day
- April 23-24th- Farm Fest
You can learn more about each of these events through Angel Mounds' website, here. Be sure to follow Angel Mounds on Facebook so you don't miss out on a single event!
And before you go, enjoy this little moment of peace from Angel Mounds.
