The death of MCA (Adam Yauch) essentially put an end to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career of the Beastie Boys and in the time since, Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz) has been feeling his way around into what the future holds.

He tells Rolling Stone in a new interview, "It’s a big challenge. It's like, 'What do you do with your life when your former life is no more?' I have to figure it out. I don't know if I ever will."

His experiences of late have included music scoring work for the film Truth About Lies and No No: A Documentary, which is about baseball player Dock Ellis. He's also landed an acting gig in the film While We're Young with Ben Stiller and he's been playing bass in a band with friend Bridget Everett.

The musician states, "It's been fun to just play bass in a band and play live, but be in the background. I'm used to having other people [plan] for me. I don't plan anything, so at some point, maybe I have to start doing that."

Meanwhile, there's still some Beasties business to take care of as he and Mike D. have been penning a memoir. Though the book was initially targeted for 2015, Ad-Rock says it will take a while longer to get it done.

"I write a bunch of stuff and I send it to Mike and Mike writes a bunch of stuff and he sends it to me. We just comment and have arguments on what we wrote. It's more difficult to remember than it is emotionally. It's fun. I'm remembering the fun things, not the depressing things. It's going to be a weird book," says Ad-Rock, who hints that a 2017 release is more likely.
