Komen Evansville Announces New Location for 2023 More Than Pink Walk
The annual More Than Pink Walk will return to Evansville this Fall with the same mission it's had since its inception — celebrate survivors of breast cancer, remember those that cancer took too soon, and raise as much money as possible to help fund the research and treatment of breast cancer so there are more stories of survival to celebrate. However, there will be one major difference to this year's event, it won't be held at Eastland Mall as it has been for the past several years.
2023 More Than Pink Walk Moving to a New Location
Known for years as the Race for the Cure, the event evolved into the current More Than Pink Walk format in 2019. While much of the format remained the same, the biggest change involved the physical aspect of the day. The 5K run/walk was replaced by a one-mile walk on a pre-determined course near and around Eastland Mall which invited more participation from those who may have been unable to participate in the past due to the length of the course.
The event draws thousands of Tri-State residents, many of whom are decked out in pink, the universal color in the fight against breast cancer, and many who either know someone or are someone fighting breast cancer.
This year, those thousands of people will gather somewhere other than Eastland Mall. According to our media partners at Eyewitness News, organizers of the local fundraiser announced on Tuesday that this year's event will relocate to a historic location in the city — Bosse Field.
No specific reason for the move was given however, it's not the only change coming to the event. In the past, the walk would get started in the morning and be wrapped up by midday. This year, the start time is being pushed back to later in the afternoon with registration starting and the Hope Village opening at 1:00 PM followed by opening ceremonies and the start of the walk at 2:30.
Registration for the walk is open now and can be done through the Komen Evansville website.
