What Streets And Places Do People Always Pronounce Incorrectly
Evansville, being a German settlement, has plenty of names that out of townees can't figure out.
I went around the building and asked over 25 people I work with this question. What streets, places and venues do people always pronounce incorrectly?" For most of us that are from around here, these are no brainers, but the ones I've found most oftenmis pronounced are ...
Boeke:
Inevitably is it usually first identified as Bo (long O_) Kee. This one topped the list
Boehne Camp Road:
Bony?? Nope more like Baynee
Fredrica:
Owensboro folks know, but what about us Hoosiers? Does it sound like it looks, with a short "i" sound, or Fred-reeka. I'll leave ya hanging on that one
Daviess County, Indiana or Daviess County, Kentucky
Spelled the same but pronounced much differently from one to the other.
Tekoppel
It's a street and a school, and it tea-cuppel
Tecumseh
Another toughy. Tee-Cumsah or Tucumsah. I saw the latter
Fuquay
Foo-kay or few-kay
Really, couldn't this list go on forever. The answer yes, but my fingers are starting to cramp. In closing one I left out so you can figure it out for yourself, and please report back to me! lol
