On June 5th, 2010, Sgt. Shanna Hornung, KY Nat'l Guard member and an American Legion Rider, was on her third tour (this time Afghanistan) and severely injured by an IED while driving her truck on a convoy. She sustained a broken back and many other injuries, but she survived. She's been in rehab at Ft. Campbell for the past two years. She arrived back in the U.S. in a paper gown, sent immediately to Ft. Campbell for surgery and is expecting to turn in her room key this coming Thursday morning. Newburgh Post 44 American Legion Riders are heading to Ft. Campbell to pick her up on their bikes, meeting at the Thorntons on the Henderson strip about a half mile past the welcome center at 0600.

She's been waiting two long years to come home and we would really like to show her we know how to welcome home our troops. The Newburgh Fire Department has been asked to meet the Riders at Exit 5 on I-164 to join the escort. Local American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard, Harley Owners Group (AKA: HOG) , Rolling Thunder, Christian Motorcycles of America (AKA: CMA) have been invited to help with this very special mission. The Riders will meet at Ellis Park parking lot about 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 16th. We will then escort her to the Newburgh American Legion for a reception.
