Underbelly of Evansville – The Ohio River Monster (NSFW)

Another chapter of local lore is The Green Clawed Beast.  It lives in the Ohio River and the one reported encounter has managed to strike terror in the hearts of anyone who has ever gone for a summer swim in the once peaceful waters of the Ohio River.

A group of adults enjoying swimming on a hot August afternoon, when one swimmer ended up having terrifying encounter with what she claimed was a hideous creature beneath the surface of the River near  Mrs. Darwin Johnson claims that she was suddenly clutched around the knee by a large, hairy, claw-like hand.

Only 15-feet from shore, Mrs. Johnson struggled to get free and head for safety. Her swimming partner watched on as she was again pulled back beneath the surface of the river. She managed to kick her leg free, but almost instantly she was grabbed again, this time from behind.

After bobbing up a second time, Mrs. Johnson grabbed onto an inner tube and the splash of her impact apparently scared the underwater creature away.

Once back on shore, the lucky-to-be-alive swimmer was treated for multiple contusions on her leg, at which point it was discovered that she bore a green, palm-print shaped stain. The stain could not be removed for several days., Spooky, and no explanation
