I am excited to share that two youths from the Evansville-area have been recognized with $1,000 scholarships toward higher education by the Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program for making a positive impact in their communities through volunteerism.

Local recipients of $1,000 scholarships are:

  • Gavin Howard, 10, Hawesville, Ky.
After hearing a fundraiser on the radio, Gavin motivated a community to raise and donate more than $17,100 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
  • Austyn Stierwalt, 16, Newburgh, Ind.
Austyn volunteered with the Riley Children’s Foundation and helped raise more than $11,000 through the planning and execution of the Riley Dance Marathon to support the work being done by Riley Hospital for Children.

These winners were chosen from more than 32,000 nominees nationwide, and selected for the positive impact their volunteer efforts have on the community. Additionally, Kohl’s recognized seven youths from the Evansville-area as local winners, with each child receiving a $50 Kohl’s gift card.
