The Offspring may have had some chart success with "Coming for You" after its release in January, but as was hinted at the time, the track was more of a chance for the band to get a song they liked to the audience as soon as possible rather than a sign that a new album was imminent. In a new chat with the Aspen Times, guitarist Noodles reveals that slow progress is being made on a new disc and they're looking at a likely 2016 street date.

"We want to do a record, that's the plan," says the guitarist. "But it's taking forever. We released this song because we felt good about it immediately. It was one of the first one or two songs we finished, so we were like, 'If we wait on this, it might be another year, year-and-a-half. Why don't we just put it out and see what happens?'"

Earlier this year, frontman Dexter Holland spoke with Full Metal Jackie about the spontaneous nature of the band's creative process. "Every other time we’ve done a record, we hunker down and go into the studio for a year or however long it takes," said Holland. "We just decided not to do it that way this time. We thought let’s just do a couple of songs, work on them when we feel inspired and when we have it done, we thought, 'Why wait? Let’s just go ahead and put it out.'"

He added that no amount of planning ever tends to yield the exact product expected. "It always ends up being spontaneous," says Holland. "As much as anyone wants to have or says they have a game plan, I don’t think doing anything creatively really works that way. You can kinda have a general direction, or thinking where you want to go when you start but it always takes on a life of its own."

Even "Coming for You" has evolved since its inception. The band has been toying with an acoustic version of the song for their concerts. The group will continue to work on new music during breaks from their summer touring. Stay tuned for more Offspring music in 2016.
