Last week AMC released their mid-season promo for The Walking Dead and many fans weren't impressed. Especially after the slow first half of season 6 and the mid-season finale that didn't exactly give us what we wanted. BUT, there is a reason for this...let me explain...

For those of you that stuck with the Walking Dead this past season so far, I applaud you. If you haven't been watching and you plan to binge watch it soon...good fricken luck. I could barely watch an hour a week, much less multiple hours in one sitting. Get ready for the longest struggle bus ride of your life.

True, there were times when the action picked up, but it was way too drawn out at some points. And the interwoven story lines forced you to come back each week and watch because "maybe this week I'll finally figure out what the HELL is going on..."

Eventually all the story lines connected and things made sense, but it almost didn't feel worth it in the end. It was like going to a gas station at 1am because you're hungry and everything else is closed and they still have that one hot dog rolling on the machine, so you dig through your pockets and manage to find just enough change to get it. But when you bite into it you realize that it's stale and nasty. But, hey, at least you got a hot dog, right? That's what the first half of this season felt like for me. Yeah, I got a hot dog and it'll hold me over, but I'm coming back later and you better have the best damn hot dog I've ever tasted to make up for this one.

And to those people who stuck with me through that hot dog analogy: DON'T WORRY. Or, actually, do. Because Negan is coming.

In the comics, Negan is like one of THE bad guys. But before Negan shows up, the story is very "meh". It's slow and drawn out, much like the first half of this season. So, since they've already cast Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) AND his name was been mentioned in the promo, you can bet that this is just the calm before the storm. There's a shit storm a brewin' and I don't know when it's gonna hit (soon? the second half of this season? the season finale? the beginning of season 7?) but it's coming.

And that's exactly why the mid-season promo is a bit underwhelming. Either they are just going to coast through the rest of the season and then BAM hit us with everything at the season finale. OR, the shit storm is coming this season and they can't show any of it to us because it would give too much away.

So just stick with the show a little bit longer. Trust me, it'll get better. Or worse, depending on how you look at it...

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on Sunday, February 14th.
