I heard about the book "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" when it first came out in 2011, but I never really gave it a chance because I judged the book by it's cover. Literally.

Shame. Shame on me. This thing looks AMAZING.

But back when this book first came out I didn't look at this cover and think "Oh! A supernatural mystery! It's like X-Men and Harry Potter all in one!" I thought "Don't look the child in the eye and she won't steal your soul...just keep walking..."

One day my curiosity got the best of me and I leafed through it, only to find EVEN MORE black-and-white pictures of creepy children. Like, these photos look like they should be part of the backstory to a horror movie, not a supernatural teen mystery! You know those movies where the main character finally finds a hidden room or unlocks the attic and finds those old sepia tone photographs of the people that used to live there years ago and you're like "Oh! That's why the house is possessed by Satan's minions"? THOSE kind of photos.

But then I saw the trailer pop up on my facebook feed and I saw that Eva Green was in it, which piqued my interest. To reference a Jim Gaffigan joke, it's like when you work in an office and someone tells you "It's Jim's birthday" and you're thinking "I don't care" but then they say "There's cake in the break room" and you're like "Well, I should say 'hello'..." In this instance, Eva Green is my cake in the break room. "The 'Miss Peregrine' trailer is out." "I don't care." "Eva Green is in it." "Well, I should check it out..."

And I was NOT disappointed. I had no idea that all of THIS was inside that creepy book cover. I'm going to have to go back to Barnes & Noble and apologize to that creepy girl on the cover and read this darn book. "Sorry creepy floating girl...you're actually pretty cool."

"Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" hits theaters on September 30th, but you can read the first full chapter of the book here, or just go buy the book.
