For the most part, the on-air portion of my job should be pretty safe. I push buttons, I click the mouse, I talk into a microphone. How could I possibly get hurt?

I realize I'm not up on a roof or scaffolding somewhere. I'm not running into a fire or chasing down bad guys...but I promise you, being a 103GBF DJ can be dangerous!

The silent assassin that gets me this time of year is static electricity! Our entire building, especially the 103GBF studio, is really bad throughout the cold weather months. Any movement I make builds up a static electricity charge. It's to the point that I have gotten in the habit of banging our metal door handle with the heel of my hand in order to lessen the sting of the shock. I don't even realize that I do this all year long.

And there are times when the static attacks more than just my hands...when it attacks more sensitive body parts, regardless of how well protected they may be.
