It's crazy to believe that today he would have been 45 today, and the fact that in January Dave Grohl (Nirvana drummer/Foo Fighters frontman) turned 43. Even though I was really young when Nirvana was in their prime, it doesn't seem all that long ago.
Dave Grohl made a documentary about the famed Sound City studios, and the trailer was recently released and there are too many famous names in this documentary that I can't even name on here.
One of my favorite musicians is celebrating his 43rd birthday today! Ex Nirvana drummer, and rythym guitarist/frontman of Foo Fighters, it's no other than the one and only Dave Grohl.
After telling Vanity Fair about her drug use during pregnancy three years ago, Courtney Love is once again saying more crazy stuff to the magazine.
As hard as it is for me to get my head around, Nirvana's iconic and game-changing album Nevermind was released twenty years ago today. Wow. Way to make a man field old...but in a way I feel lucky. I was very privileged and fortunate to grow up with the peak of my teenage years spent with the much welcomed and sorely needed musical movement known as grunge.
Take three former members of Nirvana, put them together on a stage with their instruments and a stack of amps, and what do you get? The rock ‘n’ roll reunion of the decade — albeit one that played only briefly, and for an audience of one.
It all happened when lead Foo Fighter and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl invited his old compadre, bassist Krist Novoselic, to come out for a Foos show. During pre-concert rehearsals, as the two were warming up with Foo Fighters/ex-Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear, Grohl realized something special was about to happen.
It was one of the biggest albums of the ’90s, helping to usher in the rise of grunge and the birth of the alternative nation, so it’s only fitting that Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’ will celebrate its 20th birthday in style.
In fact, it looks like the upcoming deluxe reissue — consisting of four CDs and a DVD — will include everything but a scrap of flannel from Kurt Cobain’s wardrobe. Though the set’s final track listing is as yet unknown — and, given the fact that there’s already an entire box of Nirvana rarities on the market, it seems likely that those extra discs will include some previously released material — at least one report indicates that the DVD will boast a concert making its first appearance from the vaults.
Reddit, for the uninitiated, is one of those sites that has a whole slew of things to check out. Videos, pics, national and world news (before the news and the rest of the world knows about it) and generally a pretty good music section. Well, one link that piqued my interest the other night while perusing the music section was a headline that simply said, "Seriously, Miley?". Naturally, I thought it would be a lip-synching video gone terribly wrong a la Ashlee Simpson on SNL . Nope, I was wrong. Let's just say that Kurt Cobain is rolling over in is grave right now:
For the first time ever, a contestant on American Idol sang a song from '90s grunge-gods Nirvana. Casey Abrams, who missed a show last week when he was hospitalized for a bowel condition, kept the drama going on Wednesday night's telecast with his out-of-left-field selection of "Smell's Like Teen Spirit."
The reactions from judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson to Abrams' performance were very positive. Jennifer Lopez was a bit less enthusiastic, although she stated she still "loved" Abrams.
