‘Batman vs. Superman’ Spoilers Discussion: Darkseid, Justice League and That Ending

If you watched Batman vs. Superman, you probably left with a couple questions. What was going on in that “Knightmare” sequence when Bruce Wayne has a vision of an apocalyptic future with Superman ruling an army, flying Parademons and a massive Omega symbol in what’s left of the Earth? And who was that mysterious figure who appears to Bruce and warns him about someone — “You were right about him!” — while telling him that Lois Lane is “the key?” Is this a dream? A vision? A hallucination? And, WHOA that ending! What does all of this mean and how will it impact the Justice League movie and the future of the DC Cinematic Universe? We’ve got your answers!

Fashion Of The Bat: An Extremely Thorough Examination Of Batman’s New Costume

This week saw the release of Batman #50, and as you might expect from that big round number, it's a pretty big deal. It's the final act of Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Danny Miki and FCO Plascencia's "Superheavy," in which former Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon took over the role of Batman with the help of a robotic bat-suit, and --- perhaps unsurprisingly --- it marks the return of Bruce Wayne to the cape and cowl. A slightly different cape and cowl.

Yes, he might still be Batman, but this issue features the debut of a new costume for the Caped Crusader, and that means that it's time once again to go deep with an extremely thorough review of Batman's new costume.

Check Out Leth And Quinones’ Unpublished Pitch For ‘Batman ’89’

One of DC's biggest strengths as a company has always been that it has a ton of alternate versions of its characters that fans have a whole lot of affection for. Whether it's something as specific as being really into a single Elseworlds story, or as broad as preferring, say, the '90s Flash over his Silver and Golden Age counterparts, there's an adaptability to those characters that really comes through once you start looking at all the different ways they've been presented over the years --- and when you add in their appearances in film and television, it only means you have more to work with.

And that, it seems, is the premise behind Batman '89, a 2015 pitch from writer (and occasional ComicsAlliance contributor) Kate Leth and artist Joe Quinones that was designed to revisit the world of Tim Burton's Batman movies. Sadly, the pitch was never picked up, but this week saw Quinones posting his designs at his blog, finally giving us the Billy Dee Williams Two-Face that we have always deserved. Check 'em out below!

Ben Affleck Reportedly Rewrote ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Script Every Day…in Costume

One of the stipulations when Ben Affleck signed on to star in Batman vs. Superman was that his Argo writer, Chris Terrio, would come aboard to help fix the script. Though Terrio was indeed brought in to rewrite the script (originally written by David Goyer), it seems Affleck still was not happy with it. According to a recent report, Affleck spent each day rewriting that day’s scenes until they were up to snuff. Oh, and he did it dressed as Batman.

DC Rebirth is an ‘Ongoing Mission’ to Get Back to the Essence of DC Comics

Today, DC Comics revealed the first details on the "Rebirth" that creative heads Geoff Johns, Jim Lee and Dan DiDio had been teasing for the past few weeks. During the annual retailer convention ComicsPRO, DC pulled back the curtain on its plans for the future of its publishing line, including restoring the "legacy" of heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the DCU. Johns, who helmed previous "rebirths" for Green Lantern and the Flash, claimed the linewide switch in creative direction will be a back-to-basics approach, and we'll even see books like Action Comics and Detective Comics return to their original numbering.

Just Making a Good Show: A Birthday Tribute to Bruce Timm

Ask a generation of cartoon watchers what their prototypical Batman or Superman would look like, and there's a pretty good chance the image that will pop into the heads of many will look a whole lot like a Bruce Timm drawing. Same goes for Wonder Woman, Hawkgirl, Harley Quinn, The Flash, Martian Manhunter, Robin, Batgirl, Lois Lane and dozens of other DC characters.

Timm, born on this day in 1961, has made his career in animation, co-creating Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League, among other shows, but he has arguably had as much of an impact on superheroes as any living comic artist.

One of a Kind: A Gallery Of Neal Adams’ Best DC Covers

Neal Adams is one of those creators who has had --- and is still having --- such a profound effect on the medium of comics that it’s difficult to even know where to start talking about him. His work for DC Comics in the 60s and 70s was responsible for evolving our view of a number of characters, including Batman and Superman.

At 74 years of age, Adams is as eager as ever to tell new stories with DC’s biggest heroes, and this month sees the release of the first issue of his new six issue mini-series, Superman: The Coming of the Supermen. To mark the occasion, we've compiled a collection of his best DC cover art.

Come on Barbie, Let’s Go Party With This New ‘Batman V Superman’ Batman Doll

Boy, these new Barbie body types are sure getting really specific. I mean, it makes sense for Mattel to attempt to reach a broader, more diverse audience by releasing new Barbies that better match the girls and young women of the world, but aging, rich white dude with trust issues hardly seems like it will strike the right chord. The only thing this might strike is fear into the hearts of criminals.

Though Mattel had announced the full DC Trinity (in their Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice garb) would be getting the Barbie treatment at San Diego Comic-Con last year, the only doll anyone got to see was Wonder Woman. The Amazonian princess certainly looked the part, but nobody really knew what to expect from a potential Batman or Superman at the time. With Toy Fair 2016 right around the corner, and Mattel having a large Barbie and DC Comics presence at the show, it seemed like we might get our first glimpse at the Bruce and Clark Ken dolls in a few weeks. Thanks to Amazon, we no longer have to wait for Batman.
