I didn't realize it, but last month I passed an important milestone here at GBF. Back on a cold day in January 2006, I stopped by GBF to sign up for an internship. And the rest is history.

A history that can be fuzzy at times, but a blast to say the least. I started out as a journalism major who didn't really like the idea of working at the on-campus paper. I had the opportunity to take a radio-television elective. Then I worked at the on-campus radio station and from there heard about internships at the radio station from the KISS-FM night show host, Falen (she is doing well and currently works for KDWB in Minneapolis).

When your internship interview starts out with, "If you don't like **** and fart jokes, this isn't the place for you." Considering those types of jokes were basically my minor in college, I knew I found the right place.

I have met some great people, hung out with awesome musicians, and had the time of my life. But here are some of my Top 5 moments of my last decade at GBF (in no particular order).

  1. Ski Day If you have worked at a bar, no doubt you know the pain of having to work while everyone is having fun. But we had fun in our own way. Judging a bikini contest then kicking back a cold brew on the banks of the Ohio, you can't find a better gig than that.
  2. Hanging Out With Rockstars
Sitting around the bar and having a beer with Theory of a Deadman, before they go on stage. Meeting Halestorm when they were an opening act for Breaking Benjamin. Shooting pool with Avenged Sevenfold. Sometimes its hard to believe this is technically considered work.
  3. Backstage
Not as glamorous as it sounds. Lots of people running around wanting you out of their way. However, nothing beats watching your favorite band (or comedian) from the side of the stage and getting their point of view at a show.
  4. Driving The Hummer
I'm not talking about the H2 we drove around for a few years. I'm talking about the original red beast. We only had it for a few weeks, when I first started. No A/C. It ran on Diesel. And I felt like I was going to run in to a telephone pole or an oncoming driver, when cruising down Washington Ave.
  5. Getting to be a DJ on 103GBF
I have a notebook from middle school with a giant 103GBF sticker plastered on it. I grew up listening to the guys that would eventually be my coworkers. There is still a part of me that really can't believe they allow me on this station.

Here's to many more years to come!
