Netflix’s Stranger Things is still going strong weeks after its release, even if the streaming service has yet to declare a formal renewal for the Stephen King-approved series. We’ve heard a few takes on what Season 2 might look like, but producers now detail a plan for “several seasons,” including new characters in the next run.

Where previously co-creators the Duffer brothers had spoken to a potential Stranger Things Season 2 feeling more like a sequel than a direct continuation, a new /Film conversation with executive producer Shawn Levy goes a bit more in-depth with a multi-season plan, including the likelihood of new characters helping drive the next chapter:

The answer is yes and yes. We definitely are hopeful to go several more seasons. And the plan is to continue with this set of characters while introducing a few critical key new ones next season. So I’ll just say that a lot of the big mysteries get answered at the end of Season 1, but we are very much kind of unearthing new problems and questions that merit future stories and future investigation in the most enjoyable way. So we are in love with our cast and our characters.

Things end up being resolved to some extent at the end of Season 1, but not entirely. And that’s why we’re so hopeful we get another few seasons to live with these people a little longer.

We’ve also heard that Season 2 would explore some of the Duffer brothers’ unused ideas for “Upside Down,” but it remains to be seen when, and if Netflix will opt to confirm a second run of episodes.

In the meantime, all episodes of Netflix’s Stranger Things are available to stream right now.
