We’re still a few months away from the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but Rian Johnson is already hard at work prepping Episode 8. While it remains unclear how much of The Force Awakens cast will return for the sequel, there will be some new additions to the lineup as Johnson and Lucasfilm have already begun looking at actors for leading roles.

The Wrap reports that Johnson and Lucasfilm already have a shortlist for one leading role, and are eyeing Orphan Black powerhouse Tatiana Maslany, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl star Olivia Cooke and Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez. Maslany was previously in contention for Felicity Jones’ role in Star Wars: Rogue One, and although she lost out on that part, it appears that Lucasfilm was quite (rightfully) taken with the actress.

There are conflicting components to this report, with some sources claiming that it’s very early in the audition process, with others suggesting that Maslany, Cooke and Rodriguez are the top contenders and are preparing to read opposite John Boyega for director Rian Johnson.

Last month we learned that Benicio Del Toro was in talks to play a villainous role in the film, and the report suggests that the actor is “nearing a deal” for that part.

Star Wars: Episode 8 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 26, 2017.
