Special Screening of ‘A League Of Their Own’ at Bosse Field

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the movie A League Of Their Own, which included many scenes shot at Bosse Field and other areas around Evansville. And to celebrate, the Evansville Otters will host a special screening of this film at historic Bosse Field this Friday, June 22nd at 8pm.

Ticket prices will be the same as for any Otters home game...$5 for general admission and $8 for reserved seats.

A League Of Their Own starred Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna and Rosie O'Donnel and was directed by Penny Marshall (Laverne & Shirley). The story centered around some players from the AAGPBL (All-American Girls Professional Baseball League) and the role they played during WWII. Several of the baseball scenes were shot at our very own Bosse Field...and a bunch of local folks were used as extras. It was just a big, cool deal for this area.

In addition to seeing the movie, you'll have the chance to see some of the retired players from the AAGPBL. There will also be some antique cars that were used in the movie on display thanks to the Tri-State Antique Car Club.

If you've never seen it, or it's been a while, it is definitely worth a couple hours of your time. One of my favorite scenes is when Tom Hanks is trying to explain the concept of the cut-off man to one of his outfielders. You can just see the frustration boiling up inside of him, but he is able to show some restraint towards his fragile player. Just always remember..."There's no crying in baseball!"
