There were several nice Stan Lee cameos in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseStan, who passed away last November at the age of 95, plays the guy who sells Miles Morales his first Spider-Man costume in the film. Then, after the conclusion of the story, right before the closing credits, there’s a quote from Stan as a tribute to his legacy. (For more on how that quote was chosen and why, check out my interview with the directors of Into the Spider-Verse.)

As it turns out, though, there was an additional Stan Lee cameo that everyone missed because it goes by so quickly, it’s almost impossible to see in a movie theater. Sony animator Nick Kondo (who’s a terrific follow on Twitter, and tweets out cool Spider-Verse videos all the time) revealed its location today; Stan’s riding an elevated subway as Miles web-swings through New York City:

That is really cool. And since that guy is already established as a character in the movie, it makes perfect sense. He was just taking the subway home from work and boom! There’s Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will be available on Blu-ray on March 19. And clearly there’s going to be a lot of Easter eggs like this one that will be fun to find. The filmmakers put a lot of work into the little details. I can’t wait to dive in.
