11 years ago on this date, Dec. 8, we were robbed of one of the finest metal guitarists on earth, Dimebag Darrell Abbott.   He was shot and killed by an ex-marine named Nathan Gale, during the first song of Damageplan's set.  That band was a side project for Dime and brother Vinnie Paul.  After killing Dimebag and three others, Gale got the band's drum tech John “Kat” Brooks in a headlock, attempting to take him hostage.  Less than 3 minutes after the initial 911 call, Columbus, OH police officer enter the club, and after a short standoff, the officer blew away the killer with one well placed 12 gauge shotgun blast.  It was those moments that changed many lives all at one time.  Family, Fans and th music industry in general had lost a true talent. A guitarist that changed the game for a metal guitarists to follow.  The Club in Columbus was called Alrosa Vista.  I had been in that venue a decade before Dimebag was shot, seeing a friend of mine's band Rosie. Of course I had no way of predicting the future and knowing what would happen ten years later.   I have interviewed Vinnie Paul on several occasions.  I treaded lightly on any reference towards Dimebag.  Vinnie has heard a billion "I'm Sorry" sentiments, to "Why Not a Reunion, with Zakk Wylde on guitar.  As Vinnie put it, "What If Someone walked onstage during a Van Halen concert and shot Eddie in the head. Years later people were calling for a Van Halen reunion.  How the F*** do you do that???"  Same case in Pantera's case.  Don't hold out hope or a reunion.  Instead today, honor Dimebag Darrell's life and his contributions to the world of rock.  Enjoy the videos below.
