Everyone's a critic … or at times it may seem that way. Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist and avid Los Angeles Lakers fan Flea had the honor of playing the National Anthem prior to Kobe Bryant's final game as a Los Angeles Laker, but the post-performance reaction elicited mixed reviews.

As can be seen in the video below, Flea played a bass-only performance of the Francis Scott Key anthem, allowing his fingers to dance around the fretboard as distorted bass sounds emanated throughout the Staples Center. Afterward, social media delivered a mix of harsh commentary along with a number of fans defending the bass icon's rendition.

TMZ caught up with Flea over the weekend and asked him about his response to some of the online haters. As can be seen in the video above, the bassist stated, "I don't care man ... I know that people who liked music liked it. I thought it was beautiful." He went on to add, "I really don't have any concern for little small minds that get frustrated when they get blown ... I like big minds."

While Flea's bass-only National Anthem may not have been everyone's cup of tea, the rocker will get back to a more familiar surrounding soon as it's been reported that Red Hot Chili Peppers are in the home stretch of completing a new album. The band members will also be back onstage April 29 at the Red Hot Benefit Comedy + Music Show & Quinceanera in Los Angeles. The event, at the Shrine Auditorium, is a benefit led by drummer Chad Smith and comedian Will Ferrell.
