Pop Evil land their first-ever No. 1 on the active rock radio chart this week with 'Trenches.' The hard-driving track is the breakout single off their third studio album, 'Onyx,' which hit stores in May.

With the disc being independently released via eOne Records, the Michigan five-piece is particularly thrilled to reach the peak despite the absence of major-label backing.

"'Trenches' was written about the constant grind to survive in the music business," says singer Leigh Kakaty. "Earning our first No. 1 means more than you could imagine! Thanks to our supporters and believers at rock radio, management and record label. Most of all we thank the Pop Evil die-hard fans for making this happen!"

To celebrate the milestone, the band is offering a discounted download of the song on iTunes. The track is currently available for 69 cents here.

Besides being a major career highlight, 'Trenches' is also a sort of Pop Evil manifesto. "It's about our battles," Kakaty has said. "Not focusing on the things we can't control, if we really want to be a band that stands the test of time we have to write the music that connects. We have to dig our way out of the trenches.”
