Now that Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx is “unofficially retired” from touring, we may see him as a judge for American Idol. According to TMZ, American Idol is after Sixx hoping to get him on the judge’s panel.

After only a year off the air, American Idol is making a return. The series’ ratings had dropped significantly before saying goodbye in 2016. Though an average of 11 million people still watched the final season, American Idol’s viewership was at 31 million a decade earlier. After a long run on Fox, ABC acquired the rights to American Idol and will air its 16th season in 2018.

TMZ reports, “Our sources say 'A.I.' producers and ABC want Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue as the third judge.” Pop star Katy Perry has already been locked in as a judge for season 16, reportedly taking a payday of $25 million. ABC are also apparently looking to get Lionel Richie in a judge’s chair.

If Sixx signs on to judge American Idol, he’ll become the second veteran rocker to land the gig. Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler was a judge for two years on American Idol, getting his screen time on seasons 10 and 11.

As for Nikki Sixx’s current workload, he’s promised “a couple” of Sixx: A.M. albums coming soon, one book to be released in 2017, two more books in the works and Sixx is in talks to develop a TV show that won’t fall under the “reality TV” genre.
