Many awoke Sunday (May 22) to the news that former Megadeth drummer Nick Menza had passed away at the age of 51. The musician was onstage at the Baked Potato in Studio City, Calif. Saturday night (May 21) when he collapsed and attempts to revive him first by people in attendance at the show and then emergency personnel proved unsuccessful.

Menza started his tenure with Megadeth in 1989 and continued with the band through 1998. He made a brief return to the band in 2004 and there were talks with Menza about rejoining Megadeth prior to the band going another direction before recording their most recent disc Dystopia.

As word begins to spread, we'll keep you up to date on some of the reaction from those in the music community. As expected, his Megadeth bandmates were among the first to respond. Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson and Marty Friedman have all commented on Menza's death, while another former Megadeth member Chris Poland is part of the band OHM that Menza was performing with at the time of his death. All four Megadeth men have offered their thoughts on Menza's passing.

Stay tuned as we'll update this post throughout the day.
