Watch Kat Mykals Undergo a Special Micro-Needling Facial

I'm not always crazy about getting blood drawn, but I really wanted to try micro-needling with Rejuvapen and platelet rich plasma at Deja Vu Skin & Vein Center. This procedure improves fine lines, hyper-pigmentation, acne scars, and signs of aging on your skin using your own plasma.

I gave it a shot, and I love the results.

Here's how it works: They draw your blood and spin it down so the platelets are three to five times their normal concentration as platelet rich plasma (or PRP). Then, they use the Rejuvapen with nine tiny needles "to create invisible micro perforations into the epidermis and top layer of the dermis resulting in the skin shifting its natural healing process into high gear," as Deja Vu's website explains.

The PRP (which felt really cold going on my skin!) just enhance the micro-needling's collagen-producing effects. Deja Vu has been offering micro-needling for a few years now, but the PRP enhancement is newer.

During the procedure, my PRP was in a syringe. They squirted it on my skin and rubbed it in to enhance the effects of the micro-needling.

The procedure itself takes more than an hour. They put a numbing cream on before the procedure, which itself felt like vibrations similar to getting a tattoo.They went over each section of my skin three times, pausing to squirt the PRP from a syringe and rub it into my skin.

My skin felt tight and almost sunburned for about 45 minutes afterwards. Jennifer, the nursing supervisor who handled my visit, had me wash my face about an hour after we were done and apply a hydrating, anti-inflammatory cream.

Jennifer went over each section of my face three times with the Rejuvapen. It did leave my skin a little flushed.

I've had nothing but great experiences with Deja Vu, including removing a tattoo (see the video here).
