The Alhambra Theatre is the historic movie theatre in the Haynie's Corner Arts District of our city. It opened on September 27, 1913 as a movie theatre and for 43 years it was the anchor of the neighborhood it served until it closed in 1956.It has been several things between 1956 and today.  I remember going to see live bands there in a bar type setting in the 1980's.  That didn't last very long and the Alhambra fell into a further state of urban decay.  In 2003 efforts began again to revamp and reinforce the structure, with a goal of 2017 set as re-opening.
Fundraising continues, and the celebration of independent film making with the The Alhambra Theatre Film Festival is set for April 9-12.  Get more info on the event's page here.  Below is a post from the page with a trailer detailing more about the big event.
