For years, Kid Rock has been one of the top concert draws due in part to his energetic and eye-catching live shows. And part of what makes those shows pop is the crew. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Rock revealed his thoughts on how to keep the crew happy and how it’s helped in the long run.

He recalls an experience opening for Limp Bizkit and what a miserable time it was watching how they treated their crew. “I always told my band, ‘You see how Limp Bizkit treats their roadies and s–t? We don’t do that,'” says Rock. “I was like, ‘These people are helping us. They’re not trying to harm us. We’re all working together.'”

On the positive side, he points to an experience with Metallica. “They treat their people great,” says Rock. “We want to be like them. We want to treat everybody good. Don’t spit on people. Don’t throw microphones at them. Don’t get pissed off. We want to go a long way and that’s not how you treat people.”

He adds, “I had been in the trenches for a lot of years. I was like, ‘Let’s not f— this up by being brats.’ I’ll be a brat on the stage. When we get the f— off, we f—ing treat them like they’re part of our f—ing family. And luckily, I was right. Cause that f—ing helped. You see who’s still standing.”

Kid Rock, who is supporting his First Kiss album, is keeping the good vibes going this summer, bringing back the ‘$20 Best Night Ever’ tour promotion to get fans through the gates at a reasonable price. He’ll be joined by Foreigner on dates kicking off June 24 in Hartford, Ct. and running through Sept. 5 in Auburn, Wash. See all of Rock’s tour dates here.
