Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews report highways are snow covered in most of the Mississippi River and Ohio River border counties of Western Kentucky.

Several counties reported snow plows sliding off the road overnight, mainly due to visibility issues.

Many residents heeded the National Weather Service Blizzard Warning and stayed home overnight. That aided crews in their snow-fighting efforts. Highways crews have continued to be hampered by high winds and heavy snowfall that created hazardous driving conditions.

At this hour Henderson County reports heavy snow. The rate of snowfall and high winds have worked together to reduced visibility and make driving difficult. As you head southward away from the Ohio River the snow accumulation amounts trail off toward the Kentucky-Tennessee State Line. As an example, Christian County has two trucks out treating potential trouble spots while Henderson and Union County crews are plowing with all of their trucks out on the road.

The KYTC Caldwell County facility was without power for a few hours this morning, but it has been restored.

Highway crews are concerned about dropping temperatures on the back side of the storm making driving conditions worse. It has created the potential for driving conditions to worsen before they get better. We continue to urge motorists to monitor area news media for the latest local weather report.

As commuters start to venture out this morning we’ve had an increase in the number of vehicles off the road. Remember to slow down and buckle up. Motorists are asked to use extra caution when they encounter a snow plow at work.
