I took an impromptu trip through Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, and was blown away by what I saw.

Let me start by saying, I wasn't just wandering around the cemetery. I was actually at Oak Hill Cemetery to judge a pet costume contest as part of a fundraiser for the Spirit Medical Fund. Spirit was a dog that was found tortured in the cemetery 13 years ago, and now in her honor, there is a fund to care for sick and abused abandoned animals. So, once the pet contest wrapped up, I got a little turned around trying to get out of the cemetery, and in getting lost, I found not one but two really incredible grave sites.

The first one that I came across is a plot of World War II soldiers.

The second section that I came across as I was trying to exit the cemetery, was a plot of what I believe to be Civil War soldiers.

I honestly cannot tell you why I was so moved by the sight of these graves. I do not know any of the soldiers buried here, no familial ties, and yet the sight of it caused me to stop and take pause. It was very humbling, and I am glad that I got to experience it.

I hope you enjoy the photos.
