The IU Board of Regents unanimously voted to locate the IU School of Medicine in downtown Evansville.

Pat Shoulders made the motion to pass the proposal, calling the proposal "A win for Evansville."

The downtown site covers about 6 square blocks, with boudaries on Locust, Cherry, Southeast Fourth and Southeast Sixth streets. The project will displace several local businesses including D. Patrick Ford and Townsquare Media.

The project will cost an estimated $69.5 million the City of Evansville will provide $35 million in incentives from TIF district funds.
