Your casual Marvel fan might not necessarily know what to expect from ABC’s The Inhumans series, beyond some colorful characters in their isolated fictional city. Now, ABC’s first synopsis reveals a major story arc for the first season that brings The Inhumans to our world.

Where previously The Inhumans had been observed filming in Hawaii, it remained unclear exactly how much we’d see of the core characters in our world, or if certain locations might stand in for the Inhuman city of Attilan. Now, a new synopsis from ABC (h/t SpoilerTV) reveals that a significant portion of the eight-episode season will be spent in Hawaii, following the Royal Family’s ouster from home:

After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.

It would certainly make sense of ABC’s TV approach to introduce these grandiose characters through a human lens, as well to minimize more costly depictions of a fictional city. One at least wonders if an extended presence in Hawaii could draw the attention of certain other ABC Marvel characters, but we’d bet the eight-episode season concentrates primarily on its Inhuman cast.

In addition to Anson Mount as King Black Bolt, Marvel’s ABC Inhumans features Game of Thrones star Iwan Rheon as his brother Maximus, Serinda Swan as Queen Medusa, and Ken Leung as advisor Karnak. Further cast includes Isabelle Cornish as Medusa’s sister Crystal, Eme Ikwuakor as Gorgon, Mike Moh as Triton, Sonya Balmores as Auran, and Ellen Woglom as an undisclosed human character.

Elsewhere of Marvel’s The Inhumans, we know that Iron Fist alum Scott Buck will showrun the series for Marvel and ABC. Roel Reine has signed on to direct the first two episodes, while Marvel has not clarified what, if any relationship The Inhumans will have to other MCU TV series.

Stay tuned for more on Marvel and ABC’s The Inhumans as we get closer to the IMAX premiere in September.
