Talk about taking a bite out of crime. Indiana police say they arrested a wanted drug dealer over the weekend in Trafalgar after he lead them on a high-speed chase followed by a desperate foot pursuit.

However, the suspect, 40-year-old Jerel Barger, didn’t make it very far thanks to a fearless police dog that stopped him dead in his tracks by latching on, with gnashing teeth, to the culprit’s rear end.

Police say that that Barger had several warrants for his arrest, for crimes ranging from burglary to dealing methamphetamine, at the time officers attempted to pull him over on Sunday afternoon. However, as soon as Barger noticed the flashing lights in his rear view mirror, he made a mad dash towards fields of freedom.

Reports indicate that Barger jumped at out of his truck at some point and took off on foot into a cornfield. That’s when officers unleashed the K9 unit, a dog by the name of Billy.

“Billy then led me to the suspect,” stated the officer's report. “approximately 100 yards in from the road (and) concealed in corn stalks in an attempt to hide from law enforcement. I could not see his hands as I approached. K9 Billy apprehended Mr. Barger on the left buttocks.”

Officers say that after Billy dragged Barger out of the cornfield by his hind end, they took him to a local hospital where he was treated for dog bites. Barger is currently sitting, well, probably standing, in the Johnson county jail.
