The iconic actor and director, Garry Marshall, passed away from complications from pneumonia in California today. He's credited for creating comedies like "Happy Days" and "Mork and Mindy," as well as directing well-known movies like Pretty Woman. He gave big stars like Julia Roberts and Robin Williams their start in show business. But, did you know he was also an actor too? He even appeared in a movie that was filmed here in Evansville.

In 1991, historic Bosse Field was used in the movie A League of their Own and Marshall played Walter Harvey, the owner of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League and candy bar mogul. The AAGPBL was actually started by Phillip K. Wrigley, owner of the Cubs who made his fortune from gum. Garry Marshall, brother of Penny Marshall who directed the film, was chosen at the last moment because the original actor dropped out.

I couldn't find any videos of Marshall playing Walter Harvey, so you'll have to rent the movie and watch out for "Mr. Candy Man." Our thoughts and prayers to his family.
