Historic Newburgh Transforms Olde Downtown into an 1800s Christmas Celebration

Every wonder what it would be like to celebrate Christmas in the 1800s? The town of Newburgh, located on the far east end of Evansville, IN, will be hosting Historic Newburgh Celebrates Christmas where the historic riverfront is transformed into a beautiful scene right out of the late 1800s. The event starts off Friday night, December 6^th with Candles and Collections, a fundraiser and party for the Newburgh Museum and continues on December 7, 10am-5pm and December 8, noon-5pm.

Step back to the 1880s in Olde downtown Newburgh by the Ohio River. Streets will be alive with carolers, chestnuts roasting and citizens dressed in garb of days gone by. Enjoy the Shopper Shuttle while you search for the Elf on the Shelf hidden in participating stores to qualify for prize. Hop on the Santa Express to hear stories of Christmases past and then stop by Town Hall to have your picture taken with Santa. Currently, the town is in search of individuals and groups interested in helping Newburgh turn back the clock to the late 1800s.

According to Carol Schaefer, Historic Newburgh Executive Director, "We have a need for caroling groups, musicians to play on the street corner, paperboys, people to help with the roasting of chestnuts, and characters to just wander around in period costume. We are also looking for people interested in helping behind the scenes."
