Forward Progress, that's what Evansville residents like me want.  Further improvements to our city to make it not only more attractive, but to also make our streets safer for kids and adults alike.  Below is a link to a petition that asks the Evansville City Council to approve funding for the the North Main St. 'Complete Street' Project.  Here's a peek into what things could be like.

And the petition reads like this;

The residents of Evansville, and visitors to our city, need and deserve to have streets that are safe, convenient and attractive, not just for motorists but also for walkers, bicyclists, skaters, wheelchair users, city bus riders, delivery vehicles and all other users.  The proposed reconstruction of North Main Street into a ‘complete street’ with a protected bike lane fits those criteria and could be accomplished without burden on taxpayers, because it would be funded with revenues from new development in the N. Main tax increment financing district.   Additionally, the project would provide an important quality-of-life amenity in our community by providing a walking and biking trail to connect the N. Main/Garvin Park cultural/business district with Downtown and the planned new medical school. It would help make Evansville a truly walkable, bicycle-friendly city – a healthy, vibrant city of tomorrow.

I am all for this, and hopefully you are as well.  Our city could and has spent money on much less-worthy projects.  Let's start here on N. Main Street and work our way around the city improving neighborhoods as we go.  Signing this petition is a great start. Here's the link to do that.  Click here.
