When Legends Rise has been referred to as a rebirth for Godsmack, but the album could also be the musical birth for a number of future musicians as well. One of the songs on their new album, "Unforgettable," features a child choir made up of middle school students from Gilbert H. Hood and West Running Brook middle schools in Derry, Mass., and this past week, singer Sully Erna surprised the students by turning up at school with autographed vinyl copies of the album on which they guested.

The band brought in about 20 students from the choral groups to sing on the song last December and according to the Eagle-Tribune on Thursday (May 3), Erna dropped by the Hood school to meet with the 19 eighth graders and one seventh grader who appeared on the track, gifting them autographed vinyls and revealing that the band is trying to arrange for the students to join them onstage at their upcoming show at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, N.H. on Aug. 22.

"It's my favorite right now and the critics are talking about this one the most. I'm extremely proud of this record and [the students] did phenomenal on it," Erna told the paper of the song, adding of the potential benefit for the kids, "If it helps one of them to pursue their dreams and goals in music and to go for it — I hope this experience helps them achieve that. They're the future of music and our future, in general."

West Running Brook eighth grader Lorrie Stevens stated, "It's insane for the fact that I was 13 at the time and I was getting to record on an album. The fact we might be able to go onstage — it's unbelievable."

Jack Downey, the lone seventh grader from Hood and youngest person on the recording, said he had been waiting patiently for the album. "I called my dad and said 'Check out iTunes, my album is on there,'" said Downey.

Godsmack just performed at Carolina Rebellion over the weekend and they're currently touring in support of When Legends Rise. At present, they are mostly hitting major North American rock festivals, but will kick off a major co-headlining tour with Shinedown this summer. See all of their scheduled dates here.
